Background p62/SQSTM1 is a major adaptor protein for selective autophagy. S403 is in a highly conserved ubiquitin association (UBA) domain of p62 and is directly phosphorylated by CK2 or TBK1. The S403 phosphorylation of p62 results in the enhanced binding affinity between p62 and polyubiquitin chain and induces its autophagic degradation. S403 phosphorylated p62 is concentrated in autophagosomes that is accumulated by Bafilomycin A1 treatment and in ubiquitin positive protein aggregates in autophagy deficient cells.







Clone 4C8 recognizes S403-phosphoryalted p62, but is different from clone 4F6.
