Background Syntaxin 17 (Stx17) is an autophagosomal SNARE protein required for fusion with the endosome/lysosome. Stx17 localizes to the completed autophagosomes but not to the isolation membrane. Stx17 is essential for its selective targeting to the outer autophagosomal membrane and available to the completed autophagosome.
