Background Reversion-inducing cysteine-rich protein with Kazal motifs (RECK) functions as a tumor and metastasis suppressor through inhibiting proteolytic activity of matrix metalloprpteinase-9. While RECK is expressed in a wide variety of tissues and normal cell lines, its expression is weak or absent in various cancer types including colon cancer, breast cancer and glioma. Over expression of RECK in tumor cell lines doesn’t affect their growth but significantly suppresses matrix invasion and metastatic activity.
