Background Neuroplastin (NPTN) is a type I transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. NPTN has two isoforms termed NP65 and NP55. Np65 is brain-specific and is predominantly localized to the cerebellum, whereas Np55 is ubiquitously expressed. Overexpression of NPTN is found in invasive breast cancers and may be involved in tumor growth and angiogenesis.
